Pondering the past with a few mates over Chrissy and we got to
discussing some of the old haunts in Bristol.

Anyone else here remember:

Reeves at Arnos Court:
- Wonder what happened to Gale and her large canine companion
- Dave Ashton (we think that was his name) started as a member and
then used to run over 25 nights on a Sunday
- The main DJ downstairs - dark haired guy but no one could remember
his name but he used to play great music.
- Excellent gigs from headline groups of the time (I recall R&J Stone
and even Pan's People appearing)

Prince's Theatre Club in Park Street:
- Excellent strip club! We recalled such talents as Brandy de Frank
(and her snake)
- The striptease session was preceeded by the fabulous "Put it where
you want" by the Crusaders.

Tiffany's (now the Bupa Hospital)
- Excellent venue! Bubble machines and cartoons (before videos of
course)

Vadim's in the Triangle:
- Long lines for the toilets
- Tasty looking girls (usually)

Scamps (next to Hofbraus):
- Trendy venue all chrome and shine

Gondorf's (bar with food):
- Couldn't remember much detail though

Raquel's (New Bristol Centre):
- 2 sections (Module was the smaller) and restaurant area
- Watney's Red Barrel on draft
- Booths araoun the main dance floor

Shades (Triangle Clifton):
- Basement club

Also over in Bath:
The Keel Club (Bathampton Weir)
- had some good gigs there (I remember seeing Thin Lizzy for one)
- used to be members only
- got its name from the main bar being fashined from the keel of a
boat
- Later became the Scanda restaurant

Carousel Club (Newton St Loe)
- Disco attached to a pub and restaurant
- Actually saw the Sweet there

Anyone else with memories of those 'good old days' to share?

Jeff

Hmmmm, must have been me :-))) Didn't they have carpets with "Vadims"
written on it, that went half way up the walls as you were walking down the
stairs?

You forgot "Curves" half way down Park St, IIRC?

Well maybe it was! You're right about the carpets, I had forgotten
those distinctive features. Wasn't the place supposed to be owned by
some local Italian businessman (Vito?) who also had a club in the
Paragon, Bath?

Yes, I did! Had some good nights there as well!

Happy days!

Happy days!
Also Maxims on Park Street.

'Platform One' at Clifton Down Railway Station, with Gerry on the door..

Ashton Court Country Club, sometimes with the 'Go-Go' dancer on the tiny
stage in front of the DJ. Gawd, one of those was 'grim' ... don't remind
me.

Now you're talking, I was one of the resident DJs there for 8 years
during the 70's! Excellent club and I still go down to the car park and
relive some of my former glories from time to time :-)

I was actually offered a residency at Prince's Theatre Club - now there
was a decision! Get paid to watch women strip? Fun for a while but in
the end I had to turn it down as I thought it might put me off for life!

I remember most of the other places you mentioned but was usually
working at night so didn't get much chance to try them. However, others
that spring to mind are the one that used to be in Clifton Down station,
Romeo & Juliettes (groan), Bath Tiffanys (I worked there for a while
too), The Locarno, and I'm sure a few others will come back to me within
minutes of pressing 'send'.

Cheers,
Simon.

Romeo & Juliettes (groan),
Gawd, that's had a few name changes and revamps over the years. You can tell
someone's age by the name they use for R&Js.

Look folks, instead of sitting around with your head so far up your
arse that all you are aquainted with is the back of your own teeth why
don't all of you get out there and get a fucking life?
Before you know where you are it will have passed you by!

Trust me on this one.

This is it....this is all there is...its not much...so make the most
of it. This really is it! No not a practice run to iron out problems.
When you die there will not be a coach waiting to discuss where you
can improve for the big one...not a warm up game..not a qualifier..
this is the big one! The only one. No second chance....not the best
effort out 3. So don't waste it...its all your gonna get this side of
the Resurrection and after 2003 years wait that event is in much
doubt.

NOTE: "Resurrection" NOT "Erection" (that's quite different. But most
of you might not know that).

So stop swapping ignorance's...no more electronic brown nosing....no
more cybersex.....get out there and prosecute life to YOUR fullest
extent. The real thing is by far the best.

Regards.

I was in the car park of the BUPA not so long ago when visiting a
friend. All the old memories of Tiffany's came flooding back as well.

That must have been a hard choice when you were offered the PTC job
(no brainer for me). The PTC was very well run, clean and had some
really nice girls in the show (mainly students from Bristol University
if I remember right). I think they used to work their way from the
clubs in town around Park Street and then to Clifton all in an
evening's stint.

I think the DJ down at Hofbraus was a chap called Steve Morgan (also
worked at Shades on the Triangle).

It's good to meet someone else who was about then. Must have enjoyed
some of your DJing at Tiffany's so thanks for the memories (as Bob
Hope would say :-)

Cheers!

There you lot go again...mistaking shite for an idea and manual
evacuation of the rectum as thinking. You lot in this newsgroup aren't
alone in this. It pervades all of the uk.local NG's!

I at first thought that contributors were producing mindless rubbish
purely because most of their time was spent with their head so far up
their arse that the only thing they were acquainted with was the back
of their own teeth. Don't get me wrong. You lot do spend too much time
with your head up your fucking arse. But thats not the only reason why
you write shite. I have it on good authority that most of you only
have two neurones (brain cells) and if you have an orgasm or erection
thats them fucked for about a week. After all that its no wonder all
thats produced is garbage! It would be safe to say that when any of
you lot say you have been thinking or had an idea what you really
mean is that you have shoved your hand up the nearest constipated
rectum, pulled out a lump of shite, and remembering that your head
resides up your own clay pit most of the time mistake the process for
thinking, and the shite for a thought.

But as to why you should parade it from newsgroup to newsgroup is
beyond me.

Average White Band covered it. The original version (used in the PTC)
was by the Crusaders.

Wasn't the 'Dugout' on Park Row? The 'Mandrake' was the caves place opposite
the Hatchet.

I also remember some daft licencing law that came in for a while (but
fortunately didn't last). You were'nt allowed to buy drinks directly
from the bars after a certain time (maybe normal pub licensing time
10:30pm) and it was all waiter/waitress service. They actually had to
rope-off the bars. What a stupid and unneccessary nightmare that was!

There used to be a good crowd from Bristol/Keynsham/Bath going down to
Torquay at weekends in the Summers. There were some brilliant clubs
and pubs down there as well.

I remember the Yacht Inn on the harbour side was a great starting
point followed by the Compass Club (by the harbour clock) that was on
several levels and had a great mix of people from all over the
country. Remember those ultra-violet lights they used to have that
picked-up anything white (especially any fluff on your jackets and
white underwear :-) What a laugh that could be some times!

'Glasgow Week' was always to be avoided IIRC!

I believe the Mandrake is still open in Bristol. No doubt under new
management :-)

It is still open, and I doubt it's changed much since you were last there
:-)

Run by Richard and a friend of his, don't know how long they've been there,
but it's a while now
